gwop
Noun
- money, moola
Origin / Etymology
Unknown. May be a dialectal pronunciation of Spanish guapo used substantively, thus being a doublet of wop. Even in view of the attestation of English guapo in the money sense we are not sure since it may be a secondary interpretation, as is attested for buckaroo meaning buck (“dollar”). Anyhow, an acronym of George Washington On Paper is likely a backronym.
